Will Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Outsell Her Last Album, 'Reputation'? - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

It’s hard not to fall in love with Taylor Swift’s new album, Lover. Since its premiere, Lover shattered both personal and industry records for the artist, raking in millions of Spotify streams. Will Lover outsell Swift’s last album, Reputation, and single, “Look What You Made Me Do?” Here’s what we know.

‘Lover’ will be the first album that Taylor Swift owns

Fans of Taylor Swift can’t calm down. With 18 songs, Lover is Taylor Swift lengthiest album to date. The artist traded dark themes for a bright rainbow of colors, showcased in songs like “Me.” Of course, some fans noticed how far of a departure this album is from her last full-length record, Reputation. During an interview with Vogue Magazine, Taylor Swift discussed the important place in her career that this album holds.

“There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning. This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory,” Swift said.

Due to her feud with Scooter Braun, the artist no longer has the rights to all of her old music. But don’t worry. During an interview with Good Morning America, the artist confirmed that she will re-record her older albums. As for now, Lover is the only album owned by Taylor Swift herself.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ is breaking personal records for the artist

In addition to singles like “Me” and “You Need To Calm Down,” Taylor Swift’s album as a whole broke records for the artist. She tallied up millions of pre-sold albums at retailers, beating old albums like Reputation.

According to a press release, Lover “smashed the all-time pre-sale record at Target and eclipsed debut physical sales of Reputation. In addition, the album has hit #1 in 98 countries on iTunes. On the Spotify U.S. chart, every song debuted in the top 25 with 9 in the top 10. Lover also broke the global record as the ‘top album debut in the history of Amazon Music.'”

Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ is rivaling other popular albums of 2019, including Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’

Taylor Swift is breaking personal records and even the records of other artists. As far as 2019 goes, Lover is surpassing the number of streams of albums by artists like The Jonas Brothers and almost topping Ariana Grande’s hit album, Thank U, Next.

According to Billboard, Lover’s streaming start of “175,000 SEA units, which equates to 226 million on-demand audio streams for its songs during the tracking week, the album notches the second-biggest streaming week ever for an album by a woman, the second-largest for a pop album, and the second-biggest of any album in 2019. In all three metrics, Lover was only beat by the debut week of Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next, which entered with 228,000 SEA units (equaling 307 million on-demand audio streams).”

Even Taylor Swift’s music videos are breaking boundaries, each earning millions of plays on YouTube. Videos for songs like “You Need To Calm Down” and “Me!” earned multiple nominations and awards at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The artist even won the award for Video of the Year for “You Need To Calm Down.”

Taylor Swift’s Lover is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major music platforms.

Kevin Hart injured in Calabasas car crash, CHP says - KABC-TV

CALABASAS, Calif. -- Comedian Kevin Hart was injured in an early morning vehicle crash Sunday in the hills just south of Calabasas, officials say.

The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. in the area of Mulholland Highway and Cold Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Hart was a passenger in his own classic 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when the driver lost control turning from Cold Canyon onto Mulholland.

The Barracuda veered off the road and rolled down the embankment, according to the CHP report. Two people were initially trapped in the rollover.

Hart suffered major back injuries and was brought to Northridge hospital, the CHP said.

The driver of the vehicle was also hospitalized. The other passenger complained of pain but did not go to a hospital.

An update on Hart's condition was not immediately available, but it does not appear the injuries were life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the CHP says there's no indication drugs or alcohol were involved.

'Joker' gets eight-minute standing ovation at Venice premiere - Page Six

The premiere of “Joker” at the Venice Film Festival drew an eight-minute standing ovation Saturday night for actor Joaquin Phoenix, director Todd Phillips and the gripping but harrowing origin story they’ve mapped out for Batman’s arch-villain.

Phoenix and Phillips were joined in the Sala Grande by Zazie Beetz, who also stars in the film as Phoenix’s character’s neighbor. Robert De Niro, who plays a talk-show host, did not make the trek to the Lido.

Buzz in Venice had been growing steadily around the Warner Bros. movie, from the time of its unveiling last month as part of the lineup to the climax of the two press screenings and red-carpet premiere Saturday. Both press screenings were packed, with the second one also drawing loud applause at the end and cheers when Phoenix’s name appeared in the closing credits.

The film is part of the DC Comics universe but stands alone as an origin story and does not include any appearances by Batman or other caped crusaders. It opens in the U.S. on Oct. 4.

Phoenix’s performance as Arthur Fleck, a sad sack and mentally troubled man who transforms into an icon of violent nihilism, is already generating awards talk. He said earlier Saturday that previous essays of the role – such as Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning turn in “The Dark Knight” a decade ago – did not influence him.

“I didn’t refer to any past iteration of the character,” Phoenix said. “It just felt like something that was our creation in some ways.”

Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera has stoked the awards buzz, saying that “Joker” is headed “straight to the Oscars.”

Variety film critic Owen Glieberman also praised the film, writing, “Joaquin Phoenix is astonishing as a mentally ill geek who becomes the killer-clown Jokerin Todd Phillips’ neo-‘Taxi Driver’ knockout: the rare comic-book movie that expresses what’s happening in the real world.”

After Venice, “Joker” heads to Toronto for another festival bow.
